It started with a hat in Wyoming.

I didn't plan to become a hat maker, but the best things rarely go according to plan.

Several years ago, I took a trip to Wyoming. It’s the kind of place that gets into your chest and just stays there. Wide open sky. Quiet that actually feels like something. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I fell completely in love with hats. Not just wearing them, but the making of them. Watching how a brim changes a face.

The way a well-shaped crown tells you everything about the soul underneath it.

When I came home, I started seeking out designers and milliners, learning everything I could. I spent my free time studying the craft, practicing, failing, and practicing again. What started as a daydream quietly became an obsession – and then, almost before I realized it, a business.

Holler for the Hoydens

While I craft hats for both men and women, the idea for the business name came from a word that I'd been carrying around in my head for years.

Hoyden: A loud, boisterous, go-against-the-grain woman

I knew immediately that was it, because that's who I make hats for. Not the woman who's trying to fit in, but the one who stopped trying a long time ago.

The clothing, the bolos, the belts – they all came out of that same idea. I want every woman who walks out of here to look like a whole, intentional, one-of-a-kind person. The hat starts it. The rest of the look finishes it.

We're a small shop with big ideas.

Custom-made. Wildly worn.
